Mufti Faijullah Aman, Imam, Ansan Mosque, South Korea
Myeong-chang and Yeong-hu, two Korean teenagers, visited Ansan Mosque today. Myeong-chang is learning Arabic through the Duolingo app, and Yeong-hu is also interested in Islam.
They said a few Arabic words. They have learned how to give salam. While trying to name the five daily prayers, they even mentioned tahajjud. They have learned so much at such a young age!
They came in the afternoon and sat for a long time, waiting to watch the Maghrib prayer. Brother Ashraf, a member of the mosque committee, taught them how to make wudu. Then they prayed Maghrib with us. As they were leaving, I gave them an Islamic book in Korean.
I asked them why they wanted to learn Arabic. Myeong-chang said, "Arabic has many special qualities." I do not know which of its qualities sparked this interest at such a young age. But curious young people like them will come to know Islam in this way, through their desire to learn.
Islam has an irresistible power of attraction. Perhaps one day, through that very attraction, they will be illuminated by the light of faith.
May Allah the Exalted kindle the flame of truth in their young hearts and increase their thirst for knowledge.
